“Being virtuous in our physicality includes both a humble awareness of our needs, limits, and temptations (as well as those of others) and includes choosing to act in loving ways based on that awareness.”
This whole post is GOLD Sara. Really needed to read this. I’ve been struggling a bit lately with my eating habits. I’ve realized that I have still been eating the way I was when I was much more physically active. Which is really too much when exercise is harder to come by.
So I’ve decided to make changes. Having two little ones makes it a little more difficult but I’m determined to find a way to exercise more and eat accordingly.
I had already been thinking these things before reading this and feel this was really the kickstart I needed.
Mmmmm yes, it's so difficult to change those patterns once they're well-established! I feel like I'm on the other side--I can feel bad habits getting started because in this postpartum/nursing season that I know won't serve me well after the baby is nursing less/weans. I'm hoping to do a Whole30 for Lent at the latest to kick this dang sugar addiction I've developed.
And man, I'm right there with you on trying to find ways to exercise with two LOs at home... lots and lots of stroller walks (on a really good day, I can get 2 miles in!) is the most I can usually manage :/ but it's better than nothing!
Absolutely better than nothing! We no longer live in a town with available sidewalks and such so stroller walks take a minimum 30 minutes to even get started. Since we're rural now I have come to just accept that some of my "exercise" will just have to be in the form of manual labor around our property. Which I actually enjoy. I just have to understand that there will be much less traditional exercise. So I take on new projects willingly just to get moving! Need a small tree cut down, logged and carried away? LETS GO!!
But I did make a huge breakthrough this past week. I enjoy running but struggled to see how I could get that going now in "the country." Then one morning I had a bit of a moment. I'm not joking when I say that I looked myself in the mirror and said, "Dummy, you don't need streets or sidewalks to run. You can literally just run outside in the clear fields." Happy to report that I've now been on two runs! A little better each time!
